The book tackled many issues, Rape being the most prominent. I’ll be very frank in stating that there were complicated issues that did not sit well with me, I felt them unresolved. Although, I will have to leave to the next reader his/her own assessment of those said issues. The next thing I have to point out is the length and ruminations leading to the heart of the matter. It took a really long while, from the moment Tyler started to tell Rachel the story between him and Kyle, before the true revelation. Along the way, I started losing interest and connection. Like I mentioned before, there is no second guessing, the reader can easily surmised what had happened, but somehow Patten chose the long way round.
In a nutshell, this is a promising start for Dave Patten. I am sure that time and a few more novels will hone his talent and place him among the best novelist of this new age.
